I keep getting a shdocvw.dll error, usually when I boot up.?

Sometimes I am forced to restart, go to safe mode, and then restart into normal mode just to use the computer. I heard it had to do with Internet Explorer, so I updated mine, and it still does it, plus other programs say I have windows internet explorer version 0.0.0!!! What the heck? I am running Vista on a ZT Systems tower.
