first of all, there is no need to take SS card in ur wallet all the time. It is supposed to be kept safely in home.
anyways, i also have lost my wallet (having only cards n DL) for couple of times, and thought to cancel/change. after couple of days i found it in my home.
so wait a couple of days then cancel/change all.

I’d notify the SSA immediately. They’ll get you a replacement in a couple of weeks. If you find the old one, no harm, no foul.
But you should never carry your SS card with you. Store it in a safe place and only carry it if there is an immediate need, such as when starting a new job.

You can always ask for a duplicate card.
The social security office, unlike credit cards, is very reluctant to issue you a new card with a different number, so reporting it lost doesn’t matter.

Another thing to remember is that they will only issue you so many cards in a life time. The limit is 3 in a year’s time and 10 total in a lifetime, so be careful when you get a replacement and make sure you actually need it…
Note: You will find the limits toward the bottom of the page under “What if my card is lost or stolen?”

Social Security does not take lost card reports. There is nothing they can do if you lost your card. Go ahead and file for a replacement card. If you find the old one, you will have two. Not wise to wait. You may find yourself without a card and really needing one.
