I need a spyware REMOVER!?

April 22nd, 2008 · 13 Comments

I need a good spyware remover. My computer just now caught a spyware virus and my computer keeps making me download a free anti-virus that doesnt even remove the virus it only scan it and itss really annoying. I refuse to use Spybot Search & Destroy. Anyone who says it works is lying. It messed up my last computer so bad that it blocked my entire internet and there was no way to get around the firewall. So please if there is anything else OTHER than Spybot please let me know. Please no free trials either. I want to remove the spyware not just scan it because I already know that its there. Thanks in advance!

No single anti-spyware application is perfect so I recommend using a combination. Free anti-spyware programs would be Adaware, AVG Anti-spyware (formally Ewido), Super Anti-spyware and SpywareBlaster. I won't mention Spybot since you don't like it.

I strongly recommend using FireFox, it's a far better and safer alternative to Internet Explorer. If you add-on McAfee SiteAdvisor, it will warn you of potentially harmful sites. I also recommend CCleaner which is a free system optimization and privacy tool.

Webroot Spy Sweeper is rated as the best, but it's not free (see the Consumer Search source).

Running these programs in Safe Mode (tap F8 after powering on the computer and choose to boot to Safe Mode) can be more effective.

The alert that is telling you to download a "free" anti-virus IS the malware (virus) itself. Each time you allow it to scan , you are infecting your computer more. It is part of the scam. First they infect your computer, then they want to charge you to remove it (the phony warnings) It is extortion plain and simple.

Is that phony alert or warning or popups, trying to sell you one of these useless products that are listed here?:
      http://www.malwarebytes.org/roguenet.php
If your answer is "Yes" then keep on reading…

A specialised removal tool is usually needed to remove the malware (Smitfraud or Vundo) that is causing your problem. Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as Adaware 2007, Norton, AVG, or Spybot S & D cannot remove Smitfraud or Vundo.

A good removal tool that specialises in removing these 2 types of infections is RogueRemover Free:
      http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php

After running RogueRemover, to clean-up any remaining infection traces, scan for trojans,
and spyware etc and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus. Press "Scan your computer now online and clean it for free!" on the left.
      http://www.ewido.net/en/

      Good luck.

spybot search and destroy is the biggest waste of tim… as is ad-aware i use to do a spyware search and it would find one even if ijust cleaned my computer…avg is a good system install avast …thats my prefences as it stops malicious files from being download immediately…as the no.1 answer said use cc-cleaner firefox and site advisor.. however the site advisor kept uninstalling itself on my computer for some reason…goodluck!

I've been using spy-bot for past 6 years. In vista environment you have to run it as administrator to remove spyware or adware that cannot be deleted in normal search & destroy operations. Just my humble views. Its your choice.

Click start>click run type in msconfig and then press enter. Goto the start up tab and uncheck everything except your anti virus, click ok and reboot.

      1. Download and run firefox to protect your from future spyware attacks and pop ups which are coming in through Internet Explorer IE!! (Trojan downloaders, win32 ).

A good way to see antispyware software in action is to try online scanners:
      http://hubpages.com/hub/Top-Free-Online-Virus-Scan
Most big PC security vendors have a separate antispyware. But online scanners do not mess up with the system and don't add anything to Registry.

How To Have A Clean Computer.

Step 1. Download Firefox as your browser and Adblock Plus Firefox Add-on.

Step 2. Update your virus definitions and scan, if no anti-virus AVG Free will do the job.

Step 3. Remove all adware/spyware, download Ad-Aware 2007 Free & SUPERAntispyware and run one at a time, remove all threats.

Step 4. Remove cookies, history etc download CCleaner run and clean.

Step 5. Remove any temp files left over, start\run\%temp% some may not remove because still in use.

Step 6. Use CCleaner to stop start up items not needed, google the start ups and you will know what to stop.

Step 7. If you are currently using Windows firewall please download PC Tools Firewall Plus, as it is a two way protection, light on system resources and will protect your computer from being accessed by hackers.

Step 8. Defragment with Auslogic Disk Defrag which will take about 5-10mins compared to Windows hours.

You will now have a secure, clean, fast computer.

I would recomend you do this on fortnightly bases or when you feel necessary.
