You have to stop the programs that are booting up with your computer.
click start
click run
then type in msconfig
here is where it is tricky but you can go to the startup tab and remove some of the checkmarks from things YOU KNOW are programs that are starting. If you dont know what it is , do not uncheck it!
Look for things like camera software and printer software, things you installed.
Then …………
Download Spyware Terminaor (http://www.spywareterminator.com)
Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org)
and if you don't have any AntiVirus, get AVG (http://free.grisoft.com)
copy and paste the links in your browser.
Install, update, and scan with each.
99% of malware can be eradicated with these.
If you still have a problem after this, please email me and I will try to help
you with some of the more technical stuff.

Download software called “Spybot Search & Destroy”, and then install it, and updated.
Once you’re done, open the program then go to tools, then choose “Startup”, now remove the suspicious entry, you can look under “Command Line” and choose to delete the entry you want, then restart your PC.
Now go to “Check for Problems Bar” and start it, it should remove most of the things that causes your PC to slow down.
After doing the above things, you can go to your local PC Hardware store and upgrade your RAM.
Good Luck.
This is the link for spybot:

First, go to "My Documents" and delete any pics, music, etc. that you don't need, that takes up space.
Next, go to the "Control Panel". Then "Add/Remove Programs" and uninstall anything you don't need that takes up space, but if you don't know what it is, it probably is something you need for the computer to run, so watch out for that.
Next, go the "Recycle Bin" and completely erase all deleted items.
Also, when you turn on your computer, every program that comes up, right click on the icon in the corner by the clock and click "Settings" on the programs that pop up. You will find something somewhere that says..Start program when WIndows Starts. Uncheck that.
Also, On "Internet Explorer", Go to…
Tools.
Internet Options.
Delete all "Temporary Files, etc.
After you did all that, Turn your computer off and reboot it and see if it's faster, which it should be!
Hope I helped!

I agree with BLAZE. My gess is that it is a virus. if you cannot find anything with BLAZE's steps, press cntrl-alt-delete, select task manager and look at Processes or performance. f there is a mysterious, non SYSTEM process, back up your stuff and atempt to end it. Also, on performance, if your ram and CPU usage lines are high, then you likely have a virus. If it only spikes, you just have a slow computer, too many programs. If RAM usage is high and CPU isn't, add more RAM.
