theres a problem with my free edition AVG 8.0. The email scanner is not active. I’ve tried double clicking avgemc, but it doesnt work. It worked for about a second and then it went back to not active. I’ve tried updates, scans, and I restarted my computer, but it doesnt work. Is there any way to fix this? Additional info: i have windows xp and i had AVG 8.0 since for about 2 months
plz don't tell me to uninstall and reinstall AVG, because i'm sure there's a better way to fix it than that.

Well, I could tell you that AVG 8.0 has tested so badly in independant comparative testing with other AV programs that most tech sites are now suggesting getting rid of it…. Worse, it is missing an assortment of trojans when people think they are protected…. But I think you already have your mind made up…..
If you were to be receptive to some well backed up advice from many years of tech repairs, then you would get the free Avast or Avira AntiVir….. both free…. but if you have to have a program that uses the terms mail scan, then select Avast over the free version of Avira AntiVir… the pay version of Avira has that dedicated mail scanner visibility for those folks who just have to have it displayed to reassure them…….

That will give you great protection, without being resource hogs and without letting trojans on your system as AVG sadly does do. To show how bad AVG8.0 is, updates to AVG 7.5 are being kept active until December 2008 as AVG 8.0 has been a real problem child with all sorts of troubles for users……

I heard that AVG 8.0 is so bad. In fact friends have told me not to upgrade from 7.5 to 8.0. 8.0 is hard to uninstall of your computer.
Remember 8.0 is only at testing stage
