I’m trying to download a patch for my microsoft word, I have 03 and need to open an 07 powerpoint. but everytime i try to download it, i click on the download once it finishes and it says
“a previous build of Internet Explorer 8 is already installed on your computer. You must remove it before installing the latest version of Internet Explorer 8″
and wont let me open it. and ive tried to uninstall it and reinstall it, and i just keep gettin the same message, my internet explorer works but i cant get this patch and i HAVE to have this power point open by tomorrow night
i have firefox but it wont give me the option to open with firefox
ok so i somehow got the patch working for my power point, although my internet explorer is still screwed up, lol. thanks for the help =)

Well, Internet Explorer 8 is beta software right now so I’m not going to even attempt to figure out why it’s giving you problems. It could be many different things.
The best thing I can tell you to do is to download the browser Firefox and try to download the file using that browser.

It sounds like you have the first beta version of Internet Explorer 8, which is demanding an update prior to letting you get your Office update. Jolly’s link (above) should give you the short solution, but as for fixing your problem what you’ll want to do is go to ‘Add/Remove Programs’ on XP or ‘Programs and Features’ on Vista and uninstall Internet Explorer 8. You will be prompted to restart your computer. Next, return to Windows Update and download any patches/updates you are looking for, and then return to the Internet Explorer 8 product page and download the most recent beta version (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/default.aspx).
