Nothing. Use your computer as normal. If it said that it was removed then you’re set. Keep scanning your computer regularly and keep McAfee up to date.

reboot pc and go on browsing. The file is quarantined. You should be fine.

      WELL DONE Douglas!

Nice to see someone with a decent Antivirus Software working!

However, before you rest on your laurels, you will need to Disable your System Restore and then run the McAfee FULL Scan again and any other Av/Anti-Spyware you have to ensure that the Trojan has been cleared from behind the System Restore ‘bulkhead’ where all such nasties plant a copy of themselves to avoid removal and a timely death!

Here is the page from McAfee that refers to this:

      http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.aspx

However, if you are using XP, go: START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM/System Restore tab/Select (tick) Turn off System REstore (all Hard drives). [ for Vista, Go: CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM & MAINTENANCE/System Properties (in left blue margin)/then DESELECT the System Restore ‘tick’ mark next to your ‘C’ drive (and any other drives that are ticked)].

Wait a short while, then reboot the computer and after rebooting has been completed, UPDATE your MCAfee (right click McAfee RED Square in bottom right taskbar and select UPDATES - to make sure you have the latest ones installed) THEN run all your new FULL SCAN(s). You might also ensure you have the following: MS Malicious Software Removal Tool and MS Defender Scanner installed. They are at available the following download links:

      Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830)
      Brief Description
This tool checks your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps to remove the infection if it is found. Microsoft will release an updated version of this tool on the second Tuesday of each month.

      Windows® Defender
      Brief Description
Windows Defender is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Windows Defender no longer supports Windows 2000 as mainstream support ended in June 2005.

I would also recommend downloading the McAfee STINGER tool (small stand-alone programme) which when run will also scan for a variety of other nasties on your hard drive:

      http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

NOTE: UNLESS you disable SYSTEM RESTORE FIRST, then any viruses and trojans will just re-infect the PC every time you boot (sneaky, they are!).

After turning Sys Restore OFF, run FULL scans with McAfee, the two Microsoft Programmes shown and then STINGER. Let them remove any nasties as prompted. Then reboot your PC and after the system has stabalized fully, go back into the SYSTEM folder in the Control Panel and re-activate your System Restore, then set a new Restore Point. (See windows HELP & SUPPORT and select the SYSTEM RESTORE option under Addiditonal Resources and select ‘Create a Restore’ (you can call it ‘Post PUPG removal!’).

That should sort you out perfectlyt. Make sure that enable automatic downloads and updates on both your McAfee and WIndows Update, to keep you as secure as possible and as up to date with all the latest protections.

      Happy bug-hunting!

      Cheers,

      O
