And now my computer won't load, I am trying to figure out how to get that file back to the way it was. I changed it from kernel.dll to kernel.xxx seeing as my antivirus software told me it was a virus. I can get my computer in dos and I can get it to the BIOS but I need to know what to do to get it so that I may go in and rename that file again. Any suggestions would be great!

Format and reload windows. Even more so if the antivirus says its a virus, but then again it could be a false positive virus.
Otherwise if you can get to dos. Go the system folder and type in:
rename kernell.xxx kernell.dll and try that.

You need to repair your installation. Get your windows disk, boot from it, go to the installation menu and select Repair Installation (not repair console).
That particular dll is (obviously) a pretty important one. You've essentially given your operating system a lobotomy.

The kernel is the very root of the computer and a dll file is a system file which should not be messed with. You don't say which antivirus software you have. Hope it's not Norton. I hear it's very ineffective. Try Avast
