I set the resolution to one that my monitor couldn’t handle and restarted. How do I set it back?

August 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I was testing all the resolutions and some didn’t work. I tried one and restarted before it returned to normal. I tried changing it in safe mode and even doing a system restore. Neither worked. How do I fix this?
No…. I can't see the monitor. I know how to change the display settings, I just can't get to them cuz my monitor shuts off/loses signal when the computer gets into the last phase of starting up (Login screen)

      hi,
just right click the mouse, go to properties, setting, then change the resolution as per ur moniter. the general resolution is 1024 by 768 pixels

I’m really surprised that you can’t fix things by booting in safe mode. That normally reverts to a 640×480 VGA mode that any monitor should be able to handle.

This is just a wild guess, but is there some chance your monitor has gotten into a mode from which it can’t recover. Try unplugging it for a few minutes and then plugging it back in. Also check for any fron panel settings that might help.

The following link might also help. It deals with the boot.ini file
