I think I have a virus… it stopped something called "spools.exe" so I cant run a spyware program, and took

July 28th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I think this virus took over my laptop. I can't open the internet without getting tons of popups all over the screen saying I have a virus, and it tells me to download something. Also, the only webpage that it will come up with is from something called 'antivirus 2008'. It's now my homepage and it keeps opening up random tabs, and it won';t let me navigate away from this site. Also, I can;t open any programs because it says theat something called 'spools.exe' won't work, so now nothing works. I even tried safe mode but I get the spools message, and I can't even run MSconfig. Oh, and it also turned by background bright red witha biohazard symbal and it reads' you have been infacted with a virus…blah blah blah' and so on. Is there some site besides trendmicro where I can get a scan? Or, is there any way to disable the program BEFORE startup, like from the setup menu or something? Or, as a LAST resort, how much might a repair be? What is this thing?

      Good luck.

      I would try hijack this.

restore to a point before this happened.
