I think I have some bad spyware? How do I get rid of it?

August 12th, 2008 · 6 Comments

When I start my laptop up (running XP) it starts booting up just fine then I get a blue screen that says Warning spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer. But then nothing else happens. It doesn’t finish let me get to the desktop to do anything. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I tried Safe Mode, but nothing seems to happen just a black screen with the words Safe Mode in each corner, but no desktop or icons, the only thing I can get to is the Task Manager by ctrl alt del.

Start up in safe mode. (the key for this is different for different computers. Check your manual or try the F Keys. Start with F8)
then go to bitdefender.com and use their free online scanner. that should get rid of it.

Try http://www.superantispyware.com , it is free and pretty effective.

If there is something it can’t deal with, create a new post with specific information from the scanner about what keeps re-appearing.

I think its a blue screen of death..
Abbreviated BSOD, an error that can appear on computers running in a Windows environment. This includes even the earliest versions of Windows, such as Windows 3.0 and 3.1, and still occurs in later versions such as Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. Jokingly called the blue screen of death because when the error occurs, the screen turns blue, and the computer almost always freezes and requires rebooting.

Install some antispyware or anti virus..
      Like avg…

I too used super antispyware- works great especially for rogue virus’ that act like trojans, for everything else try Avast! anti virus.

reboot and go into safe mode. from there download a spyware remover such as spybot or adaware. also get avg and run scans and delete the spyware.

“Warning! Spyware detected on your computer” message is the result of Antivirus XP 2008 infector (adware program) installed on your computer. This adware may hijack your desktop, change wallpaper showing the following message: “Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer”. Moreover, it may change your homepage (”Insecure internet activity. Threat of virus attack” hijacker), and install Antivirus XP 2008 rogue without your permission, using browser security holes. We recomend to remove this dangerous malware from your PC.
