Icon Wont stay on bottom toolbar for macbook?

I just got a macbook pro and i am just getting used to it. I dragged the icon for safari from the toolbar on the bottom to the desktop and it disappeared. I searched for it and found it, and i dragged the icon back to the toolbar at the bottom. Now everytime i turn the computer on the safari icon isnt on the tool bar anymore i have to find it and put it there every time.
