Im starting school Aug 25th for medical assisting. I will be going Mon-Thurs from 9:00-4:00, its 900 hours of classes & 160 externship. Im just curious if anyone knows how much medical assistants make on average in Ohio & is this a stable career that can branch out doing other things like phlebotomist or Xray tech or anything? Info is appreciated!!

Look here http://data.bls.gov/oes/search.jsp?data_tool=OES to check for your area. It doesn’t branch out without more schooling, and it wouldn’t really directly relate to anything. Phlebotomists are below CMAs I believe, it may even be part of your program. You would probably be starting from scratch if you wanted to be an X-ray tech, though any health care experience will help within the field.

its a stable career that pays 24-32k per year. You will have to be trainined in whatever area you want to branch out in. There are alot of medical assistant jobs at PureMedicalJobs.com

Unfortunately there aren't supposed to be too many jobs for the MA (or medical coder or biller) despite what those private $$ schools say
A person does learn phlebotomy in a MA program though not sure if there's additional certification needed. For more info: http://www.nationalphlebotomy.org
If still wanting to get training for MA, please consider the more affordable program such as the ones offered through the county vo-tech school or community college as long as it's accredited within the industry.
Radiologic technologists ('xray') usually needs formal training and just fyi that those 'limited scope xray' programs don't usually allow a person to get a job in radiology.
General career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'medical assistants', 'radiologic technologists' (just fyi that the student must take 'technical physics' for radiography) or such.
