When I go to the update manager it says bin file is missing, you are not protected. Is this something I can fix, or should I remove old one and download latest Anti-Virus? I know very little about computers so be gentle.

“Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted… you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update.”
Listed in AVG’s forum. Just wait until they correct the problem, you aren’t the only user experiencing this issue.
If you’d like to update your software before they address it, here are the steps to correct it:
1 - Start up AVG, click Update Now.
2 - The list of updates is shown in Pop up, click on the more information link. A list of updates will be shown.
3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one:
- http:// downloadfree.avg.com/update/ u7iavi1616oo.bin
This is the file causing the problem.
4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools -> Update From Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates. Install these and AVG should be working properly again.
Hope this helps.

simple you need to download and then reinstall the software again and update it before you run the program.
unless you still have it saved on your hard drive then you can uninstall and reinstall it then run update before you run it and then run it.

1. Open AVG user interface
2. Select tools > update from directory
3. Navigate to the original install directory (typically c:/program files/AVG/AVG8) and hit OK”

Today when I tried update my AVG 8 had a unknow problem, “.bin file is missing”, then I fix it obtained a new version of an other file hosting in Brazil, in http://www.grisoft.cz/softw/80/update/u7iavi1616oo.bin . You must make the download manually and update from directory using open AVG interface user from tray icon.
Don’t forget!
Before, take off AVG 8 from tray icon, after open the update from directory window, while updating it.
