In windows 2003 server - Symantec Antivirus Hang up - Help me?

March 21st, 2009 · 2 Comments

We need a solution for the hanging problem of Symantec Antivirus Version 10.1.5.5000. We have installed Symantec Antivirus (SA) Version 10.1.5.5000 in windows 2003 server (SBS). After installing the SA in the server we where able to update the virus definition.

When we try to scan it states the error as : “Could not start scan. Scan engine returned error 0×20000046”. Some time it even gets hanged. We have to use ‘end task’ to terminate the program.

I did not get any solution, so I just reinstalled the server and the SA; but the problem still persists. Kindly help us to get a solution for this issue.

Advance thank for every one…..

We had a very similar problem and never could get Norton/Symantec to work correctly. My fix was the uninstall norton and use AVG Network Edition.

I have also used Avira Small Business

Either of them works and protects without issues as well as making managing the clients easy!

I wish I had a different answer but you have the exact issue that caused me to change to a better product. Either of the above use less resources (which are critical on a server) and either of them seem to just work.
