Install Vista from DVD Drive.?

October 5th, 2008 · 2 Comments

i have acer laptop with windows vista Ultimate, it recently had some issues so i formatted the hard drive but i lost one of my system restore disk and now i cannot reinstall vista.
One of my friends from school made a copy of his version of vista Ultimate which he purchased i was going to use it with my vista ultimate key. but when i try to install this my laptop wont read the disk (there is nothing wrong with the disk because it works fine in my desktop and there is nothing wrong with the laptop dvd rom because when i put my old xp cd in it read and tries to boot from it)

I am not trying to bootleg this program i am simply trying to get vista running again as i have the key for ultimate any way…

the content on the disk is not damages as it reads on my other PC.

It is a boot disk and it is able to boot up both my desk top and my friends laptop..
I did set the dvd rom drive to 1st boot device in the bios and it still will not work.

Well it may be a damaged copy. Not as in CD is scratched or anything but damaged installation files preventing booting from the CD.

You may need to go into your BIOS settings and make sure your DVD drive is set up to be a boot device. You may also need to change the priority of the Boot devices.

The other possibility is that your copy of the disc was not set up to be a bootable disc. In that case you may need to make or find a windows boot disk to allow you to properly set up the DVD drive for use without an OS.
