The last week I have been trying to install Windows XP on my USB External drive and I have partly succeded. Windows XP installs on the drive, which is formatted to NTFS, and It starts booting, but It starts conflicting with Vista OS and it crashes. How can I configure Vista to let the Windows XP on my USB hard drive take over? Do I have to change the Windows XP setup files in the installation disk?

The main problem is that XP can't run vista because Vista is running the show. I you want to run XP from the hard drive you have to boot from it in the Bios. However, you can run the xp program by using Virtual PC free to download from microsoft.com. Be adware that you may have to restart from stratch. Follow the instruction in the help file for more details. This program will slow down your computer when you are running it so use caution when using it.

use vista boot pro, check it out it works. are you only booting from usb or have you installed xp on your usb. also try removing your HD which has vista and check if the usb load xp properly. this will ensure that your xp is properly installed on your usb
