I recently formatted my system and installed XP Pro
(with no service packs). Soon after completing the
install I ran the setup for SP3 and completed its
installation too. But when I tried installing IE7 after
it I received 'Internet Explorer installation did
complete' message and asked me to restart the system.
When I searched through the log files of IE
installation(In the Windows Folder), in the KB915865.log file a line stated that the installation was expecting SP2 but found incompatible version. So at present is there any IE7
versions that can be installed over XP SP3?
Any computer geeks out here??

You could try contacting microsoft. there could be something wrong with your service pack or just internet explorer. As far as i know service pack 3 has had some bugs that they haven't fixed yet that could be your problem.

I do not have a ready made answer. Some people did face problems after installing SP3. Why don't you go to site http://www.windowsupdate.com and let it install IE7 for you ? It may work. If this also does not work , reformat , Install Windows XP then install SP2 and IE7, this is bound to work, after this you can upgraded to SP3

I've seen the same issue happen numerous times when loading XP Pro Sp3 without having loaded the IE7 update.
My Solution is: DON'T DO IT!!!!
If you install IE7 before running the SP3 update you will be ok, but after words… there will be Chaos, and errors
But, that I'm sure will be fixed by Sp4 - @ least Microsoft is giving us IT Guys job security…
Woo Hoo!
