First, I have to wonder why you got a message indicating that you should be using a proxy server. There should be no need for a proxy server unless you are either trying to bypass some blocking software put in place by the system admin for the place you are trying to connect through, or you are trying to hide your true IP address and keep from getting in trouble for downloading illegally through your bittorrent client.

So, assuming you are a home user, and that you are not trying to be clandestine, you have no need for trying to use a proxy.

Now, you can attempt this. Go into the properties and TCP settings for your wireless card (assuming that you are using your wireless to get online) through your network connections, and change your TCP/IP settings to this manually

      192.168.0.100
      255.255.255.0
      192.168.0.1

      and the DNS to
      204.117.214.10
      199.2.252.10

And see if you can surf.

I suspect that you have some nasty malware and spyware infections that are redirecting your connection, so you might want to use your sister’s computer to download http://www.malwarebytes.org Malwarebytes Anti-malware and http://www.spybot.net Spybot Search & Destroy. Also download the spybot_includes file, so you can update spybot offline. Copy those to a thumbdrive or burn them all to a CD, and move them to your computer. Install them, run them, and remove everything they find.

Malwarebytes is exceptional at repairing the damage done by malware. Run a Quick Scan first, before you run a full scan.

Get rid of the proxy, and also make sure that the radio on your wireless card is ON.

open internet connections, and click on the tab that says connections, and then on the LAN settings make sure all the settings are same as your sisters
