July 26th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I don't even use internet explorer. I only use firefox. but when i press controll alt delete and open up the task manegar it shows that about 7 processes of internet explorer are open. If i close them, they just come back within the next 5 min. no matter how many times i close them they always come back . Why?

      You might have a virus.

There is a difference between explorer and iexplore. explorer is the windows program itself. If you use FireFox and have several instances of iexplore in the task bar, then you might have a virus. You could also have spyware or other malicious programs on your computer. You should run some anti-virus software, but also scan for programs you didn't want installed in the add/remove programs area of the control panel. There are some spyware-checking programs out there. The way you might have installed spyware is through the installation of toolbars, shareware, or other software that you didn't buy in the store. Not all online software is bad, but many programs have something added to them.

One thing you may want to do is consider what other programs are running or what you are doing at the time the windows pop up (or when the hidden programs start running - keep an eye on the Task Manager). That could help you find the malicious software if it isn't a virus.
