My recent problem was related to Microsoft. Net framework and Window installer. Whenever I used to start Internet (mozilla) or Microsoft Word, either 'Window installer', 'PhotoGallery' dialog box use to appear. I was not able to use my scanner for long. Now after removing some unnecessary software from my 'Control panel', those problem are apparently solved, but my Norton anti-virus is not automatically starting, and Internet takes at-least 7-8 minutes to start after double-clicking the internet icon. Can you please suggest what to do to fix this problem?

Your first problem is running that bloat known as Norton, I have to say that 90% of the computers I see from people who say they are slow are running Norton or some other POS antivirus.
Switch to AVG Free, but make sure to remove the link scanner and other crap they add, google it or simply ask how to do this here, I'd be happy to show you how to do this.

You could have spyware. What I suggest is that you run a scan with a free spyware removal program called Spybot Search & Destroy. You can get Spybot S&D here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
(NOTE: When you install, disable TeaTimer. This will slow down your computer dramatically.)
If the scan finds anything, select "Fix selected problems" and follow this guide:

You HAVE to follow this guide to COMPLETELY remove all Spyware programs. Just using one program such as Spybot S&D, AVG, Avast, etc. will not work.
BUT IF YOU DON'T HAVE SPYWARE:
Follow this guide to make your computer faster:

ALL PROGRAMS MENTIONED ARE FREE.

Ditch Norton AV ASAP. It is a major resource hog and sucks the life out of your system for little benefit in return.
It once took me 6 months to delete all the crap Norton A/V left behind after I deleted it.
