ok so here is the situation. lately, these popups for anti-malware anti-spyware have been popping up saying my comp is infected with spyware and to download their anti-spyware to protect my computer. the anti-spyware service that keeps persistently popping up every few minutes on my comp is called winanonymous. also an anti-trojan balloon keeps popping up every few minutes as well and telling me to download b/c my comp may be infected with trojans. are they reliable? and why do they keep popping every few minutes? it is a very annoying problem and i do not want them popping up constantly. how can i get rid of this problem?

You have a spybot. It is a bot installed that makes you try to buy the spyware or to download it.
Go to http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html and download spybot and run it.
When it finds files that are bad, click the box next to them and tell it to clean your computer.
I suggest using a good antivirus program and running Spybot SD at least once a week.
I really hope this helps.
PS- I am editing this in, SuperAntispyware, and antivira are both spyware removers with very negative reviews, because neither one can compete with Adaware or Spybot SD. Another poster has recommended using both. They are sub-standard programs. Please, stick with good programs that do a full job. Here is one reviewer's opinion abut the SuperAntiSpyware remover ( http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2127215,00.asp ) .
I want to see you get all the spyware off, not just some.
Again…good luck

Do NOT install these! They are malware themselves. Try cleaning the browsing history on your machine. If you are running IE7 then go to tools and 'delete browsing history' and select ALL. If the pop ups still persist, then you will need to find the program that is running in memory and kill it. Hopefully you don't already have a virus.

Both of these are free and safe programs.
download this:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
Download, install it, run the updater, and run a full system scan.
and this:
http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html
Download, Install, run the updater. RUN A FULL SYSTEM SCAM!
The popups you are seeing now are the actual infection on your system known as adware. It install by itself, prompts you to buy something that ends up infecting you all over again to scam you. They can be irritating to remove, but the above programs will help you greatly by scanning your machine and removing the infections, returning your machine to safe operating.

Besides using a free antispyware you can try an online scanner like these ones below.
Good luck!

Phony alert boxes, background changes or "balloon" pop-ups from the tray (by the clock) about a trojan, virus or spyware infection and the attempt to sell you some useless software to "fix" the problem usually indicates that your computer has a Smitfraud infection. DO NOT BUY THE PRODUCT THEY TRY TO SELL YOU! IT IS SCAM.
Sounds like your computer may have a variant of this ubiquitous Smitfraud infection.
Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, McAfee or Spybot S & D cannot remove it, as you may have already found out.
Free specialised Smitfraud removal tool is here (SmitfraudFix)
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php
After running SmitfraudFix, to clean-up any remaining infection traces, scan for trojans,
and spyware and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus. Press "Scan your computer now online and clean it for free!" on the left.
http://www.ewido.net/en/
Good luck.
