I am continually having problems with AVG 8.0 updates. The latest one says “Invalid Update Control CFT File, AVG 8.0″
What does this mean? How can I fix it? Does it mean I have to uninstall the AVG and reinstall it yet again?

You need to delete the CTF temp files in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avg8\update\download…. Dont delete all the .bin files in there unless you want to re-run all updates since your original installation. Only delete the avginfo files that end with .ctf….

Thanks to G D // Sep 5, 2008. Finding the directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avg8\update\download…. and deleting all the .bin files was possible to re-run all updates. Only deleting the avginfo files that end with .ctf.
Thanks again to GD posting, it solved my problem.

The AVG website instructed me to navigate to the Advanced Tools / Updates / Manage, however there is no Manage option in my Updates tree. I couldn’t find the ctf files until I read this thread. Search didn’t pick them up. I deleted and updated without problem. Thanks.
