You didn’t say what anti virus you are using. If you are using AVG,
Download the updates from the AVG site to a folder where you can find them and open the AVG interface and press Tools and Update from directory then point to the correct folder and AVG will do the rest.
If that doesn’t work, uninstall AVG, then reinstall.

Search for Invalid CFT in this forum (It has a bad title with CFT instead of CTF). Anyway the answer is to remove all *.ctf files in your Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg8\update\download directory.
It worked for me and at least 5 others that saw the other post.
