wow this sucks. im trying to restore my ipod touch cuz it randomly fell into recovery mode yesterday. so im like whatever ill just re-sync, WRONG! i plug it into my computer and vista says “hey let me check up on some drivers for “Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)”" so im like sure that sounds fine. then it cant find anything and itunes doesnt recognize my ipod!!! i tried re-installing itunes, putting itunes back to 7.7, shooting my own foot, and trying to manually find the drivers for vista for my ipod touch that is in recovery mode. NONE OF THESE WORKED! please help.

I would try this, completely un-install iTunes, restart your computer and re-install iTunes.
Now connect the Touch to your computer, and open iTunes. Hold down BOTH the lock button on top and the home button for 10 seconds and then release ONLY the top button. After about 6 - 10 seconds, iTunes will recognize the Touch again. Now restore the Touch and see if that solves the problem.
