I need to add a anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall to my computer. In the past I used avg, kaspersky and avira. Windows defender(windows live one care) used too much cpu. I used Zone alarm and Commando in the past for firewalls.
What is a good anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall? I prefer something free and with a sound when a virus is found.

well I use Zone Alarm Pro for a firewall and antispyware, with Norton’s 2008. It serve my surfing purposes. But if you strapped use windows firewall in control panel and any free antivirus, something is better than nothing at all

Yes, Avast 4.8 Home is a good choice. That’s what I use and it works just perfectly. I’ve been virus free. It has a resident shield that runs and scans actively so you don’t have to worry about being infected. It alerts you if it finds anything suspicious. It also doesn’t use much cpu.
As for anti-spyware software, a good free one is Ad-Aware 2008
For firewalls,Zone Alarm is one. It’s a great firewall. The only downside is that you might have to be a little more experienced in computers. There are plenty of options for it, but it probably shouldn’t take you that long to get used to it.
If you want different types of software, you could always go downloads.com for free more options on anti-spyware, anti-virus, and firewalls.

Avast is similar to AVG and many other freeware antivirus. I think Avira is the best of the lot, especially when you fine-tune the advanced features.
Avast is similar to Norton’s in terms of sucking system resources! You will notice this especially on boot-up, it will be somewhat slower! stick with Avira or AVG, which are both very light on the system, and install a couple of spyware programs such as Xoftspy and Spyware Terminator and RegCure. No one antivirus software can do a complete job, use a few at all times.
