Is AVG a virus or anti virus?

It just pops up out of nowhere telling me to install it as an anti virus

      Anti-virus… apparently it’s very good but I found it seriously slowed down my browser. I would personally avoid.

      AVG is an anti virus but there should not be pop ups. Are sure it says install and not update. Is the “pop up” but the time on your task bar if it is read it carefully this is where AVG tells you it is updated or needs to update.

      What anti virus do you have installed?

      AVG is anti-virus software. I have never heard of it as a popup. Do not download it from anywhere except AVG or one of the big download sites like http://www.download.com
