Hey guys,
I had my computer fixed and played with the other day and the tech guy put AVG free 8.0 Antivirus on it (i had Norton) and told me that it was as good as the full version and free. Im not too sure about this.
Am i better off paying for the complete Avg edition? or do any of you know of any other Antivirus packages i can get that are good????
All help on this is very much appreciated!

I'm using AVG and find it's very good and comes with a reasonable anit-spyware scanner as well… Avast is another good free anti-virus
Don't pay for any of the freely available version … you don't get too much more for your money … you can do selective scans and get technical support … bu otherwise not much else

For the price it's pretty good, but I like McAfee better and it's also free if you get it via AOL's website. All you need is an AOL/AIM Screen Name.

Don't pay for it…the free version is just fine.
I use it for all of my antivirus needs.

I've been using AVG for years now and I've never had a problem with it. Why pay for it when the free version works just as well?

I have been using AVG for years. It is good. Not as good as Norton 360., but its free and it works. Use it with a good free spyware program like Spyware Terminator. For a firewall I use
Zone Alarm free. Good luck.

AVG is really good. I don't have any other anti virus. I had McAfee one time and Norton and when you try to remove them you need to pay to get it off your computer. I tried the add remove program etc and it would not do it. they sent me a LONG email explanation and how to do it and when I did it crashed my computer. I will never have any program on my computer that you have to pay to remove.
AVG has been on my computer since I got it two years ago and it hasn't failed me. Once a month I go to Microsoft.com and do the full computer scan and it scans for virus's and errors etc….it takes a couple hours to do that it is so complete…and it has never caught anything AVG hasn't.
So put it on with confidence…it is GREAT!
I am not a newby on computers either…This is my sixth computer and even on the last one I had AVG…so don't worry about it. It is fabulous!

I've been using AVG Free for several years now because Norton and Macafee both aloud my PC to get viruses.A lot of them. I've never had a problem since I switched.I would only suggest the pay version if your on a system with multiple computers like at a business. They actually supply hospitals and other large businesses with virus protection. You should check out thee forums.

I've used AVG free for over a year and a half. It updates everyday, scans the files I download, and runs a full system scan every week (which I schedule). I've never had a problem with it or with viruses. It's probably not as fancy of an interface as Norton, but I've had both and AVG free seems faster. As long as AVG free gets its updates, you shouldn't need to buy the full version, unless you want their technical support and other advanced features. Usually what I do when looking for software is go to download.com and look at the reviews and ratings to decide which software package to try. I'd say your fine with the software you have.

I would pay, but the free one works very well also and I've heard many people are happy with it. What ever you choose to do though, never go back to Norton. It slows your whole computer down because it takes up so much RAM space.Superantivirus and Superantispyware are also very good. The Superantispyware cleared a trojan horse off my computer after a couple of scans. the computer works better than expected now. here's a comparison chart of the free edition vs. the paid ones:

AVG Free 8.0 is awesome! I have had it in conjunction with McAfee, for several years. AVG has found, and alerted me to viruses or potentially harmful websites, more often than McAfee. I am really amazed that they continue to offer a free version. A computer literate friend of mine suggested I try it several years ago, and now I recommend this anti-virus software to all my friends and family.
