i’m sure it’s legal. as long as the principal and district knows about it.

What a great idea! I am going to pursue the placement of web cams in every classroom in my school district. I will be contacting my State Attorney General to determine if web cams or any other video surveillance in my classroom is legal. I will also be asking about audio monitors, such as tape recorders running while my class is in session.

I have serious concerns over the legality of this. If a parent can no longer video tape their child at a sports game, I don’t see how this can be legal.
Without parental consent or at least informing them, I don’t see how it could occur.
For anything like this to occur, there would have to be permission, at the very least, from the school principal.
Sounds dodgy.

In our district/state it is illegal. Its consider illegal because the district does not allow recording any material on their property without prior documented consent and knowledge of parents and staff.
Get some test proctors or look up the policies regarding the use of recording technology from your district or private school.

A true web cam might be problematic. But, there is nothing illegal about monitoring what is going on in a classroom electronically as long as the images are not networked.

My teacher used to do it too. But he did not use a real camera, just his mobile phone. He did not record it, but he found it difficult to monitor the whole class because as soon as he turned his head to one part, the kids in the other part started to communicate.
So he saw in the screen of the phone what was going on. It was easier.
About your question, I think you should talk to the headmaster. Then, talk to your parents. How do you know he puts a camera? Has he told you? If he has, than the headmaster probably knows too.

every state has their own laws.
In California it would not be illegal. Teachers have the right to record their classes for their own learning. If in this case they are learning who is cheating it is perfectly acceptable.

It’s just like cameras on school buses. You have to let them know that it is being done. So, there’s no expectation of privacy. if you know it’s there and you still cheat, it is on you. What about the cameras in stores to prevent shoplifting? They are there they just have a sign that says they you are being filmed.
