Is it ok to have AVG and AVAST anti-virus system all at the same time?

June 24th, 2008 · 7 Comments

hi there, my computer is really slow, although I've downloaded both of these anti-virus programs, I still have difficulties watching youtube videos because my laptop is incredibly slow. I want to reformat it but I don't have VISTA cd to do so, and system restore didn't help either. I've done disk cleanup and so defragmentation.

Help me out ! :D X

Yes…but it will slow your computer down considerably. Try turning off "real-time protection" for both and just scheduling weekly scans.

NO! it will lock up and be slow, your choice

yes you can have both but do not scan with both at the same time. I suggest you get rid of AVG and use AVAST because I like it alot better and it has never failed me. Try downloading "Spybot search and destroy" and scan your pc this helped me speed up my pc. I also used Regcure and it worked great and cleaned up my pc. Spybot is free but Regcure is not.

Do not waste your time with windows defender its useless.

      Just give it a try.

Chose one and stick with it, the problem with two, or more, anti-viruses running at the same time is not that they double check, but that they often let the other one check and then nothing gets checked! Chose one and then install Windows Defender too. Defender is free from MS and will stop all root-kit viruses, at least for now.

usually its rule of thumb to only have 1 anti virus because they can effect eachother, but i do not believe that is why your computer is running slow, if the labtop is slow i would take it in to a local business that tunes them back up, but it may just be your processor or the amount of ram, memory, anything. and updating a already slow computer to vista would be pointless, only adding more difficulty. Talk to a local computer expert and give him your system statistics xp(im assuming you have xp) but i believe it works the same for the older versions too.

      start/all programs/accessories/system tools/ system information

it has all over your information, your going to want to know your processor, total physical memory, and how much is available and also you may want to see how full your computer is.

my computer, left click once, not twice, and in details it should say how much freespace you have to total size.

i'd write everything on paper before you take your computer in to the guy.

It is not good to have two antivirus active at the same time because they conflict with one another and crashes your system. also make sure to have a light anti-spyware on.

you MUST only install one anti virus as having two conflicts with each other and will cause problems on your pc, choose one to keep and remove the other one. if your pc didnt come with a windows disc when it was new it will have a recovery console built in, to use this start the pc and immediately start tapping F10 until the recovery menu appears then follow the instructions to format the hard drive, occasionally it is F11 you press but 9 times out of 10 it is F10. good luck
