Though it is possible (only to a certain extent) it is highly unlikely. It's only possible on some phones that are running an OS (like smartphones or iphones or really similar ones).
Also, I don't think there is really a case that someone ever hacked into a phone before. When you hear stories about celebrities getting their phones hacked, its not true. That's just media using the term hack for attention. In reality, those people either leaked their password or had their information stolen (by a person who works for a phone service provider).

This is very possible on some bluetooth enabled cell phones. Cloning is done using gear the monitors the cell phone signal, and is entirely passive.
This is not specific to one brand of phone or a certain type of embedded OS, and is apparently much easier on web-enabled phones.

And I quote:
In January, the teen hacked into the telephone records system of T-Mobile International. He used a security flaw in the company's Web site that allowed him to reset the password of anyone using a Sidekick, a pricey phone-organizer-camera device that stores videos, photos and other data on T-Mobile's central computer servers. A month later, the teen would use that flaw to gain access to Hilton's Sidekick files, according to corroborating information and screen shots he shared with washingtonpost.com.
unquote.
So yes. It can certainly happen. Usually it is done via some other means first as in this case. However there are also vulnerabilities in the phones themselves such as with bluetooth…
Most of the time when you see "cell phone hacks" or "cell phone hacking" online they are sites referring to tricks that make the phone do additional things you want (so hacking in the older programming sense).
Both are possible. To see more you might try googling "cell phone vulnerabilities" which will tell you things that can be exploited (in the more modern sense of hacking).
Good Luck!

It all depends on what you use your phone for. Interent is not secure and I can eassialy trap you if you go to my site on your phone. However its extreamly illegal (and inmoral ) to set a virus using the service providers system. People get jailed for long time. Howveer it has happend and is easy to do. Im a white coller hacker so dont ask me how.
