In specific I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 with 250GB free hard disk space, running Windows Vista 32-bit. I would like to install Windows 3.1 on it also. I tried doing so from the command prompt cmd.exe but I would need to be in MS-DOS mode (which I haven’t found a way to access on the NT-based OS’s, XP and Vista). Would I need to install DOS first and reboot the computer with a DOS operating system
“disk”? Or is it just not possible to have NT and DOS-based operating systems on the same computer?

If you have a Mac, you can run Mac OS X and run Windows also with Boot Camp.

You can have multiple operating systems installed at one (you need a boot manager to switch between them), but Windows 3.1 is not an operating system - it is a graphical shell and window manager which runs under MS DOS (which is not the same as Vista’s DOS mode).

My bro somehow got two different versions of windows xp on his computer one time. It would come up on a screen and ask which one he wanted to use although I don’t think the other version of Xp worked.

well, actually vista is not DOS based. msft is getting rid of DOS. as for installing multiple OS’s. yes you can do it. ull need to partition your disc. idk if windows 3.1 does this automatically. also, another option is to have it run on a virtual machine. like vmware. u should look at those products. i dont have specifics cuz i havnt done it but i know ppl who have. and relly 3.1 wtf?

Yes you can partion your hard drive. That means split your hard drive.
You can run one operating system on one partion. To partion
a drive you will need a program. Search for partioning a drive in google.

It’s possible but it’s not recomended because there could be conflicts.
