I have got a Compaq Presario C757EA, virtually identical to the HP Pavilion G6000 (I think), with Windows Vista Home Premium as it's OS. As a HP computer no Vista discs are supplied. What I want to do is install a new, larger HDD to be my default drive, what I want to know is - is it possible to make, or freely obtain a Vista boot-disc, or whether I could simply copy and paste everything, including Vista, from one my current HDD to the new one via a USB-SATA adapter. Any elp wil be greatly appriciated.
I have tried going through HP but they feel they need to charge for the disc, despite almost all other manufacturers giving a back-up boot disc with the system
My Hard Disc does not have a restore partition, thanks, once again to HP, my first Hard Disc scratched so I sent it back to HP for a new HDD and it never got partitioned

You could get software to ghost the first hd to the second hd.
You could find out which version of Vista you're using and then try to find it on the internet. You'll need to pull the serial number off of your computer first.
You could also set up your second hd as a slave drive and wouldn't have to install anything.

Usually, if your computer did not have a "Restore" disk set, then it probably has a "Restore" partition on your hard drive. This partition is normally called "D". You should be able to burn this partition to a set of CD's or a DVD.
But, the best method of converting to a larger primary or "C" drive would be to "Image" the drive. To do this you would need an imaging program. I like Norton's "Ghost", but there are others. This type of software can transfer all data from one drive to another, saving all software and settings. When transferring Windows from one drive to another, it must be done from outside of the operating system.
The other method is to back up the restore partition and reinstall from this back up.

i believe HP should take care of it,
however, if they don't look for acornis true image backup software and some external HDD in order to keep your data safe. since you've problems with partitioning setting another HD as master (whenas your current one slave) might meet your need.
all-in-all check acronis homepage they develop backup, partitioning and migrate softwares, so you might find them usefull (besides have 30 days trial version)…
