there are two different types of recoveries that you can run..a full destructive one will wipe the whole thing clean..and the regular recovery gives you at least a 50% chance of saving some of your files and settings…cheers

The simple answer is yes but before you decide to do a whole system installation try the recovery part of the windows cd i can help a whole lot if you need to replace windows system files as for the drivers you need to get them back for you video card ect.

Yes, boot up while pressing F8, or F10 key depending on your computer. Menu will come up letting you do this.
Good Luck

No, but it really doesn't take long to do, the reinstalling drivers part that is. When you re-install Xp it formats the hard drive prior to install the system files. Just back up the files you want saved on a CD or DVD or if you have an external drive back it up there. Have fun with your re-install.

Most Windows Discs (legit ones anyway) allow you to 'repair a windows installation'. It will replace damaged files and clean the up the file system, sending it back to factory settings. This only affects Windows itself, not the data but to be on the safe side you should always back up your files first. (Remember, this is Bill Gates' software lol)
