I’m always worried about downloading something from a site I’ve never heard of. So - has anybody used this, and if so, what did you think?

Firstly, NEVER download anything from a site you have never heard of, research it first and find out what experience other users have of it.
Also make use of browser add-ons such as Web of Trust which will alert you to fake or untrustworthy sites:

As for Kaspersky, if you like it as an antivirus then that is your choice but it’s no good for spyware, use the following:
