Yes, you need to pay a yearly subscription. Once you installed, you need to register the product. When your subscription is expiring, you will get email notifications reminding you to renew just like others.

When you purchase McCrappy it's only good for one year. As in most Anti-Virus software you will need to pay to continue your protection for another year.

McAfee is a resource hog that may slow your computer to a crawl and is not as good as it used to be at Virus protection.

A much better choice is ESET Nod32. If Staples doesn't have it you can buy it online from http://www.eset.com/

It's very easy on your computer resources and is the best protection available in my opinion.

As the other replies have already said, it is a one year subsciption.

You can get it on one year or two year. McAfee is good. I have two computers and I use Symantec on one and McAfee on the other. I don't trust the free antivirus programs either. They have a lot of limitations. That's why they're free. I'd rather spend like $40 a YEAR and KNOW I'm protected.
