I know tons of people say AVG is better in every way and doesn’t hog system resources. But I had this time where everything was fine and McAfee pops up saying Trojan removed. That never happened when I had AVG free. So which one is better. I don’t believe it when people say McAfee’s detection sucks or that it doesn’t do anything good for you. Tell me which one is better, keeping in mind that McAfee is considered a major antivirus company and a lot of other companies trust it and that AT&T Yahoo DSL provides it free for its subscribers. No company that I have heard use AVG for their computers. WHICH ONE IS BETTER?!?!??!? Tell me one of them is better, give me a reason. And also suggest other free antivirus products excluding avira and avast and threatfire and bitdefender and comodo and pc tools and all the other ones mentioned a lot by websites. I want an antivirus that isn’t popular. One that not many people know about.

Mcafee by far!!!
it is extremely good, and gives free updates; etc.
if you have the choice, then choose McAfee.

I would consider both of them to be pretty mediocre.
For an unbiased test report of virus detection capabilities, go here:http://www.av-comparatives.org/
and click “Comparatives” on the left, then choose #19 and #18.

Yes, AVG does not hog system resources. But, I would get a registered copy, not the free one.
I’ll give you this link and you be the judge

AVG is by far the best in my opinion, not a single virus on my laptop.

AVG usually works in the background, depending on the settings, and that’s one of the reasons it doesn’t use lots of system resources which is great.
i’ve used both AVG and McAfee for about 3 years each, and by far AVG is better.

I caught a virus on mcaffee. I now use avg and am totally pleased the performance and protection I recieve.
mcaffee has made deals with manufacturs of systems to be automaticly put into their systems. they get a kickback and mcaffe gets free advertisement.
mcaffe isnt totally bad but avg ROCKS

i’ve used them all, and McAfee is by far better in a business environment because of centralized management, and a plethora of capabalities. We have blocked file creation, and itunes sharing, and when a virus infects other parts of our company overseas, we always find that it is because people rely on other companies to keep the product up to dat. When i redid the whole location with epo, I found some pc’s that were still using 7.1 Mcafee. Your only as good as your weakest point. And rarely do you hear people mention microsoft patches on these forums…they’re just as important as having an updated anti-virus product. There is no one easy answer…
Now as for those odd jobs with neighbors, i have found that getting rid of norton, turning off system restore, downloading avira, updating with all microsoft critical and security patches, and then doing a full scan with avira has fixed problem 99 percent of the time.

and avg is terrible when compared to avira…avira is the best i’ve seen…without a doubt. And i don’t have to register ar wait for an e-mail with avira…just load, update, and done.
