Vista's inbuilt firewall is actually pretty good at keeping problems at bay, make sure your internet browser and file sharing options are restricted to only allow actions that you commonly use.
As for norton i'm not so sure, I had it as have all my friends (as it nearly always comes free or preinstalled on PC's) and its not very strong. Many viruses can work around it, mainly because its so well known and used that finding a way round is worth it. Windows defender has the same problem (though even when it was still new it missed some trojens.
Below is a link to the best anti-virus program i've ever used, its designed for businesses and is so low maintanence but very efficient. Using that with windows firewall, you should never have a problem unless you go looking for it or someone specifically targets you.

Use some other software. AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

You should be fine. I use the Norton Firewall. You can only use one firewall. With security in place avoid questionable sights and you should be fine. Safe practices on the internet is as important as your installed security. Be sure you have automatic update turned on for windows update and for your Norton Security. Without regular updates your Windows Defender and your Norton will not be good.

This is where I make you more paranoid lol.
Although your computer may seem "safe"… and it does.
This doesn't mean what travels on your network is and for that matter what travels on your ISP's network.
I have been around the information security side of networking for well lets say more then a couple of years. Getting into someones computer isn't generally worth the time, but setting up a "tool" that waits for key types of traffic and then stores the information for later use.. now thats easy and doesn't really require much work on the thief's part and is relatively low in risk as the thief isn't sitting there and usually doesn't have this "tool" on their computer/property.
Vista is just another OS put out my Microsoft, it will be forever flawed. Thats just the reality of Microsoft and security.
I have PC running XP and Vista as well as a couple Mac's running system 10 (OS X).
And I have to say over the last 10 years I have had so little problems with the Mac OS that I can count them on my thumbs. (I only have 2).
Again, its not necessarily getting in to a computer that lets your information out to a thief its the network. Monitoring a network they can get hundreds of victims with one effort.
But concerning your security setup…. its fairly tight for a Microsoft Windows PC.
