Yes its okay, although I dont like it.
But you need to use other adware/spyware software as well
These are good.
SuperAntispyware (Free Edition)

Malwarebytes

Ccleaner (will clean up crap after going online, use it after you were online)

Norton is the worst anti virus made my man. imo
AVG & Avast are very very good anti virus.
Every firewall is going to let things passed.
Just restrict your downloads and what your downing.

To be honest, I haven't used Norton 360, so I can't readily tell you whether or not its efficient. However, here are some links that might help you:

From the sites I looked at, it seemed like Norton received a decent review from the critics, but a a poor rating from the users. I'll let you make your own decisions.
About your downloads, there is really no need to stop downloading things altogether, it's just a necessity to know what you're downloading and where its coming from.

Did you get the regular Norton 360 or the Norton 360 2.0. Iv been told that the regular Norton 360 messes up and it’s NOT all that good. Make sure that you got the 2.0 version. I have the Norton 360 2.0 and I have had NO problems with it. I download a lot of stuff and no viruses. I had just bought I new laptop and was willing to spend anything to keep it clean and virus free and after looking around and talking to a bunch of computer “geek”s I decided on Norton 360 2.0.

There is no program that will protect you 100%…it just doesn’t happen. Norton is ok but as of late has become a serious resource hog (it ties up a lot of memory). A good firewall, any anti-virus that is kept up-to-date, keeping your Operating system updated, and a little common sense as to what sites you visit (and download from), will help keep you safe.

I personally recommend staying away for Norton (Symantec) products, I found them to be slow and non-responsive, and uninstalling takes years. And a resource hog.
In My Opinion; Norton 360 is for first time users, that don’t want to get annoyed buy their security apps.
As you have Norton for 1-year and you paid for it. It’s upto you whether you want to continue using it.
Anyway, you should be fine if you use a Firefox 3 with addons:
WOT, McAfee SiteAdvisor, NoScript, Adblock Plus and Dr. Web AV link checker.
Install Javacool’s SpywareBlaster > manual updates and uses no resources. Protects IE,FF and Host files.
Get SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition. Run scans every - hmm - 2-3 weeks.
If you want to ‘more’ safe when surfing the web, get Sandboxie. They have a clever way of presenting what their software does.
If you plan not to use Norton 360.
I can recommend: Avast! AV Home Edition and Comodo Firewall (uncheck AV option)
I do NOT recommend AVG8 Free.
