I have been recording with Garage Band on my current mac for 5 years now. My computer is falling apart and I need a new one, but I don’t think I can afford another mac. I prefer macs, but I think I might settle for a new PC (not sure what brand yet), but I want to know if Pro Tools works well with PCs. Also, do you recommend any particular brand of PC?

Pro Tools works with both PC and Mac.
I suggest building your own computer if you want a home studio computer, but if you MUST buy one, I find Dells to make respectable studio computers, as long as you replace the soundcard or use an audio interface.

go there for more information.
As far as PC type goes, I think about anything will do as long as it has a lot of memory in it to save your projects and keep up with multiple things going on at the same (recording tracks, effects, etc) time to prevent lag and freezing.
And of course a simple cheap PC will do fine if you’re doing solo stuff like acoustic or electronic stuff; but if you’re recording full bands either live straight shots or multi-tracking, you may want to install more RAM on it.
Good luck!
