Alright so I recently downloaded a program called Spybot-Search & Destroy onto my Windows Vista laptop because it looked like a free and safe spyware detector/remover source. But I don't know for sure yet because its still running smoothly and nothing has happened so far yet. So is it a good idea to leave it installed on my laptop or should I remove it immediately?

Spybot S&D is a safe program, and one of the best at what it does, but there's no guarantee you've gotten the real one unless you downloaded it from its website.
I suggest you also download Ad-Aware 2008, also free. It tends to complement Spybot S&D, catching some things it misses and vice-versa. Note that Ad-Aware is on a different website.

I love this program. It's not the greatest free anti spy ware though. I like super anti spy ware free addition. The thing about spy-bot is that if you update [Immunize] about once a week it will block known "bad" sites from loading. Also you might want to think about getting ccleaner {used to be called crap cleaner}. A great way to get rid of the junk on your computer…hope this helps…

I recommend to just let it stay on your computer because so far it's not doing any harm into your computer. By the way, did you try using your Windows Defender for spyware scanning? Because it's already included on your Windows Vista pack and it's a great software that can remove and detect Spyware and other Viruses. Hope this helps. =)
