Is there a better program than AVG Anti-Virus?

August 6th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Because I’m trying to use Nintendo Wi-Fi and I always get error code 52003, which says “Unable to get IP address” and on the Nintendo Wifi Support site one option is to turn of the security program off.

I try to exit by right-clicking the icon on the tray, but even if I exit on that, the AVG program still runs.

BASICALLY, I’m looking for an alternate security program. Any Ideas?

ZoneAlarm firewall and antivirus has worked very well for me. Its all one nice little package. ZoneAlarm can be gotten free with just the firewall or buy the Pro for the included antiviirus. You can go in and very easily tell ZA to give your program full access and if you need more then that ZA has a game mode that will temporarily relax its protection while still leaving it running.

Are you looking for free alternatives only?

If you can find a way to get your hands on both NOD32 and ZoneAlarm Pro, then you should be well protected.

NOD32 is one of the only few Anti-Virus software that offers "Advance Heuristics Detection". Basically it reads a file's coding and detects and suspicious behavior the file exhibits if it is executed. So on top of using a Virus Definitions list for known-viruses, NOD32 accounts for these "suspicious" files that exhibit virus/trojan/malware-like properties.

Simply put: It's possible to catch viruses that haven't even been discovered and placed in the definitions list.

ZoneAlarm is probably the best firewall I've personally used. I believe it's the ONLY one that scans both incoming AND outgoing traffic. All firewalls block/filter any malicious INCOMING traffic, but they don't account the dangers of outgoing traffic from programs (especially if it's a Keylogger Trojans that uses your internet to send your personal information quietly while you browse the web).

Another amazing feature in ZA is its ability to "hide" vulnerable ports that hackers generally target. These ports (Whether TCP or UDP) are non-existent in the eyes of the attacker, which makes it a wonderful counter to many different exploited ports on Windows.

Both come with free trials and are more than well worth the money.

Alot of info, but I hope this helps
