Installed Avast! Home earlier today and immediately upon start-up from the reboot, Avast complained about Kaspersky being installed and to prevent issues, shut down its own On-Access Scanner. The problem with this is, I don’t have Kaspersky installed. I was fairly certain of this and even checked my Start Menu and Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs). This program doesn’t exist! There isn’t even a Program Files folder for it.
Considering all of this, I am starting to think there is a virus ’spoofing’ itself as Kaspersky in order to disable other virus scanners. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?
