Is there a way around a virus that keeps you away from security websites (Norton and McAfee)?

September 12th, 2009 · 5 Comments

I recently bought Norton 360. To activate it, I have to get to the Symantec website, which a virus keeps me from doing. They can clean it, but it will cost $100. Is there a way to eliminate this virus manually to avoid having to pay extra to activate a program I’ve already bought?

Download malwarebytes and superantispyware then run scans with both in safe mode by tapping F8 on startup and selecting safe mode. Run a scan with all both programs and your problem should be fixed.
      Superantispyware http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html?tag=mncol
      Malwarebytes http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol

      “Can’t install or run Malwarebytes?”
Try renaming the mbam-setup.exe if installation fails.
Try renaming the mbam.exe if the program installs but doesn’t run.
Try starting in Safe-mode with Networking if program fails to install, run, or update. (Hit F8 key repeatedly when computer is starting after a reboot.)

Paying Norton to clean my computer would be a last resort. I would try a few programs first. Malwarebytes anti-malware and Superantispyware which may be able to do it. I going to give you a link that shows you how to download, install, update and run a security program that malware is blocking. Some of the infections are so bad now days that a users needs to reinstall their OS or pay someone to clean it up. But most can be cleaned with a couple of programs.

This is very effective way to remove Virus, Spyware when your installed Antivirus software failed to run.

1- Download a free version Avira AntiVir Rescue CD at http://www.free-av.com/en/tools/12/avira…
      or Kasperky Rescue CD

2- Burn it to CD, then boot your computer from it.

3- Scan and remove any infected files.

4- Boot the computer from internal hard drive and turn off the System Restore feature on all drives.

5- Install MBAM and scan your computer again.
