I looking in the local disk (C:) and there is a folder called windows.old, is there a way in there to get the xp back?
I currently dont have my disk still for xp but i do have the product number.

i do have all the files and stuff backed up.. now how would i restore the computer?
and would the back up files be gone if i restore it?
I formated the computer and when it reboots there is the other version of windows which is xp and then windows vista. I clicked on the link to load windows xp and then after u click which thing u want to work on.. it asks for the admin password :S
I have no idea what that is because we got the computer second hand and they already had it all installed.

It depends. was it a free demo version or a torrent cracked version? If it were me personally i would back everything back up and reinstall windows xp its a good idea to reinstall your operating system every so often anyway. If you don’t want to do that then if its a demo wait until the trial expires and it might revert back. I don’t know how it installed itself but it might be a “dual boot” so when it boots up it might have the option to use XP or vista.

I also have a Compaq Presario. Okay so you don’t have the recovery disks I’m assuming. So the next obvious step would be to check if you have any restore points in your computer. Restore points is when you make an actual copy of your computer settings just in case you screwed it up and want to restore it back to those settings, kind of like a Time Machine.
If you don’t have any then you would need to do a factory restore, which is to take it back to the original settings when you bought it.
If you want me to help you I need your model number
