AVG under the company Grisoft; I can’t use the thumbs feature, so I’m just backing up the first answer.

Seems as though AVG is pretty popular. I’m not familiar with it but I can agree on http://www.download.com.
Just about all the stuff they list has a free trial. I’ve used them for a few things and the trial was completely sufficient, I didn’t have to buy the package.
Plus you get reviews from actual users.

I personally use a copy of McAfee Enterprise 8 that my university gave out free because it didn’t want viruses on the network - many other institutions do that. If your school / work have a network that many different people connect their own computers to then they might offer a very high quality virus scanner for free. It’s cheaper in the long run for a university / company to give away anti virus than to pay someone to clean up every time a virus gets on the network.
If your school or business doesn’t provide it you could suggest it to the management of your own school or work - they might even thank you for saving the virus management costs.
In the meantime - I used to use AVG Free before starting uni and I find that a very good program, if a little slow on scans. A lot of the money you spend on a paid for antivirus goes to pay a programmer to optimise the scanning engine for speed.

Try Avira anti virus I’m going now into 3 years of using it and it works great doesn’t slow my computer. I tried AVG and Avast(they are free) but did some research and it showed that they don’t work as well as Avira so forget those.Avira is free for a year then you will need to update it but just uninstall it and download it again and it will work fine. You also need spyware so you should try superantispyware and spybot both are great and free.
