In the right corner of the "start bar" at the bottom of the screen, I have a little icon that blinks back and forth between a blue shield with a question mark on it, and a red shield with an x on it. I have McAfee installed and also a spyware catching device, and neither have alerted me about this, but every 5 minutes, I get a balloon in the corner of my screen claiming that my computer has a ton of spyware. If I right or left click on the icon and/or balloon, it takes me to a website and tries to get me to download something called "Virus Heat," a virus protection program (I can't tell if it's fake or not). Help me get rid of this please!

it is some type of malware - definitely
mcafee isn't all that great, and your "spyware catching device" could be fake too.
here are some programs that i would recommend:
avg anti-virus
spybot - search and destroy (weird name…)
windows defender (need genuine windows)
scan, and if you can't get rid of the viruses/spywares/malwares, then you have to:
1. COPY THE LOCATION OF THE FILES
2. DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE CALLED MOVEONB (search on google wateva it's free)
3. RUN THE PROGRAM MOVEONB, PASTE THE LOCATIONS SET TO DELETE THEM
4. repeat 2 and 3 until all of them are gone
5. reboot computer
