I have an HP laptop with Norton Antivirus on it already,..i really like the norton, but today something asked me if i wanted to download and run XP antivirus 08,..it said I have 64 infections ranging from trojans to trakcing cookies!! But my Norton won't pick up on them?? Its asking me to purchase XP antivirus before it will remove the infections,…it also says to contine to use my regular antivirus. Is this a scam, or should i send the $50 and buy it?
I feel like an idiot cause i installed it without searching about it first! What can I use to unsure that I have removed it from my computer?!?! I downloaded fire fox and one of the things the second guy mentioned and it found like 460 something infections,….I removed all of them, but how can i ensure i have no other viruses or that the stupid xp thing was deleted?!

It's a scam. Just get some anti-spyware. Spybot is free and works great. Other free anti-spyware programs would be Adaware, AVG Anti-spyware (formally Ewido), Super Anti-spyware and SpywareBlaster.
I strongly recommend using FireFox, it's a far better and safer alternative to Internet Explorer. If you add-on McAfee SiteAdvisor, it will warn you of potentially harmful sites. I also recommend CCleaner which is a free system optimization and privacy tool.

It's a scam. Don't even click on it, but it might be too late. It might have already affect you with it's own adware. you'll know if you continue to get these popups.
If you are still infected, you can find the removal tool here: http://www.internetinspiration.co.uk/roguefix.htm
XP antivirus is on its list of malware that it removes. Follow the instructions and it should remove it for you. It's free.

Do not send money. If you had typed it's name into a search engine you would see a list with many people badmouthing the product. The second link in the search window will show you how to remove it… GOOD LUCK!!!!

XP ANtivirus '08 is a Trojan Horse.. by all means do not download or install it.
A reputable Virus scanner is what you need and i would suggest AVG Antivirus. It is free and i have used it for 5 years with no problems.
The website for it is: http://free.grisoft.com/
Hope this helps.

No XP Antivrus is not reputable. Your best bet is to download the free version of Rogue Remover from majorgeeks.com so you will have a good program that can detect and remove rogue applications like XP Antivirus. Now Norton Antivirus is a reputable program but it gets exploited more then any other reputable internet security program as you just found out it did nothing to stop this program from installing on your PC or give you any warning about blocking it either.

XPAntiVirus is the suspect anti-spyware that includes a set of features which do not work, and generates false positives to trick users, forcing them to buy commercial version of this software. XPAntiVirus may be dangerous for your computer, causing system errors and slowdowns. This misleading program can be installed manually or through browser security holes (using trojan horses or worms, installed on your computer). It also hijacked the homepage to obscure websites, sometimes with adult content. Remember that XPAntiVirus is unable to remove spyware and viruses!

NOOOOO! DO NOT BUY XPANTIVIRUS! XpAntivirus is a rogue antivirus program that may display fake virus scan results to trick you into purchasing a full version to remove the viruses on your system! XpAntivirus is nothing more than a fake virus scan utility that tries to steal your time and money. To get rid of XpAntivirus, try SmitFraudFix (free).
