I currently have Office on my desktop and my old laptop (my academic version allows me to install on 2 computers). Last night, I purchased a new laptop. So I’m wondering if it’s legal for me to uninstall from my old computer and install on the new, or if my license is supposed to be tied to the old laptop eternally. I’m confident that I could do it…I just want to make sure that by the strictest standards, it’s legal for me to do so.

Yes you can. But you will probably run into problems installing because the code on the old license probably won’t work on your laptop and it will tell you it is an invalid license number. If you have the license from a CD it will probably work. If you have the license from a PC at work from that little tag it probably won’t

If you’ve got two licenses, you can install it on two different computers. So you wouldn’t need to uninstall it from one and then install on another. You could leave it on two different computers since you’ve got two licenses.
