Kaspersky gaming problem?

I recently installed kaspersky anti virus version 325 due to the heavy bombardment of trojan viruses my comp had received. Nevertheless, it got rid of them (allegedly). But now when I try to play Gothic 3 the game gets stuck abominably, and I have a decent config.
1 gb ram, 256mb nvidia 8600gt, 1.6 ghz dual core processor.
Turning kaspersky off doesnt help either.
Is it the anti virus causing these problems or some sort of redundant virus in my system?
Any suggestions?
